Short Presentation
The 2nd Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Aretaieion Hospital was established in 1906. It provides quality medical services to women for over 100 years. It is a tertiary inner-city hospital, a regional and national referral center. As well as acute hospital services, we provide a wide variety of updated, specialist care in the field of Minimally Invasive Surgery, Gynecological Oncology, High Risk pregnancy, Maternal – Fetal Medicine, Urogynecology, Assisted reproduction, Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology and Menopause. The Assisted Reproduction Unit was recently certified by the Greek National Authority of Assisted Reproduction. Our Department is a reference center for gynecological congenital malformations, an internationally accredited center for postgraduate training in the field of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (IFERAG) of 2 years duration. The department of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology offers an official 6 months training program certified by the Greek Ministry of Health. The 2nd Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals in Obstetrics and Gynecology offering high level both under-graduate and post-graduate training and education, actively participating in Continuous Medical Education. Multiple research protocols are active in our department mainly as part of a Ph.D thesis and more than 70 original research articles were published in peer review journals last year.
